A closure and detour is coming to I-35 during the overnight hours to facilitate some ancillary work related to the Twin Ports Interchange (Can of Worms) project.  According to details released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, drivers should expect to see a complete closure of the southbound lane of I-35 on Thursday, April 15 - starting at 9:00 PM.

The closure will occur near 14th Avenue East.  A detour will be posted to take drivers to an alternate route during the closure. That detour will occur at 26th Avenue East to London Road, to Superior Street, and then to Lake Avenue.

MNDOT says that the closure is needed in order to install a temporary overhead sign needed for the Twin Ports Interchange project. Originally this closure was  scheduled to happen on April 2, but had to be rescheduled due to a fabrication issue with the sign.  The April 15 date represents the rescheduled work.

As long as things go as planned, officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation don't anticipate the closure lasting longer than the one overnight that starts on April 15 . The southbound lane of I-35 should be re-open to drivers and traffic as of 5:00 AM on Friday, April 16.
