Hunter Hayes Tells Ex Goodbye in Trippy ‘Yesterday’s Song’ Video
Hunter Hayes attempts to navigate through his surroundings within the "Yesterday's Song" video.
Finding himself in an abandoned building with a broken disco ball on the ground, Hayes follows the pieces to another vortex, where he finds past images of himself in video and photo form playing his music. Understandably confused, he keeps walking toward the light, where he is eventually introduced to faceless women who all wear a similar disco ball as a head.
The trippy video, directed by Ryan Hamblin, takes viewers through various stages of Hayes’ musical journey as he tries to find the appropriate way out of the set. All the while, he sings of finally being over a former relationship.
"You had your chance then but I'm movin' on / You're just yesterday's song ... now you're just an echo when the feeling's gone," he sings on the chorus.
An upbeat breakup song, “Yesterday’s Song” is one of three new tracks Hayes has released from his forthcoming third studio album.
“Writing and recording for this new album has been a creative journey for me, both as an artist and just as a human,” he says in a press release. “I’ve been learning how to let go and just let the process be, not over-thinking every little thing which is something I’m really good at. I’ve been experimenting with new sounds and stretching myself creatively more than ever before, and just embracing life, which I think you can really hear in these songs and I think that comes through visually with this video as well.”
