A summer-long project that will see the installation of a roundabout and an RCUT intersection along Midway Road will require the closing of a busy intersection and a posted detour starting Monday, June 13.  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting drivers that the intersection of Highway 194 and Midway Road will be closing to traffic on June 13 and will remain that way throughout the remainder of the summer - until the work is done.

The closure is part of the work that MNDOT is doing to install a roundabout where Highway 194 meets up with Midway Road, and also install an RCUT intersection just a little further north of that intersection, where Midway Road connects with Highway 53.

The posted detour will take drivers off of Midway Road onto Maple Grove Road, then north on Lavaque Road, onto Highway 53, back to where Midway Road would have connected.  There is also a detour in place for Highway 194 that utilizes Solway Road.  Both of those detours are completely detailed in the map graphic provided by the Minnesota Department of Transportation:

The duel projects are part of a plan by MNDOT to improve the safety of drivers at the Highway 194 and Highway 53 intersection and at the Highway 194 and Midway Road intersection.

By now, most Northland drivers are familiar with the roundabout-style intersection that will eventually be in place at Highway 194 and Midway Road.  Meanwhile, that RCUT intersection might be somewhat new to some drivers.  While MNDOT has started utilizing the intersection-type, there haven't been a lot of them installed in our area.  There is one in place, though further north on Highway 53 in Cotton.  Here is a graphic provided by MNDOT that details what the RCUT intersection looks like:

The intersection closures and detours are expected to be in place for the remainder of the summer.  According to a timeline released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, both of these projects are expected to be completed by August 27.
