The City of Hermantown has proclaimed October 11th as UMD Bulldogs Men’s Hockey Day in Hermantown.

Hermantown has some deep roots in the UMD Men's Hockey team.  Head Coach Scott Sandelin and associate head coach Jason Herter live in Hermantown, while assistant coach Adam Krause is a Hermantown native who played for the Hawks.

Also, Dylan Samberg has been a part of both national championship teams, while Cole Koepke and Jesse Jacques helped the Bulldogs claim the 2019 title. Jared Thomas, who finished his career with the Bulldogs in 2018, scored the decisive goal in UMD’s 2-1 win over Notre Dame in the 2018 national championship contest. All Hermantown graduates.

The day also has some importance. UMD's home opener is October 11, that's when the team will raise their national championship banner.

The proclamation was made by Mayor Wayne Boucher, with the support of City Councilors.
