Five years ago today, our own little miss sunshine Lauren Wells walked through our front door. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Our boss, David dug up an old video of when Lauren first started working here. It's clear that Lauren had no idea what she was getting into accepting this job and to be fair, we had no idea what we were signing up for by hiring her. (Lots of iced coffee and Halloween memes.)

Check out the videos from over the years, including her first day on the job. You can see me teach her how to handle the mice problem in the old building. Also, check out how much hair David had just 5 years ago!

So the real story of Lauren being hired was dramatic enough on its own.

One day in September I got a phone call from David who was excited about a new applicant we had for the morning show. They had an interview and he wanted me to meet her, so she drove up from the Twin Cities and I took her out to lunch. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I realized I forgot my wallet. Embarrassed, I said I'd drive back and get it. She said she could pay, only to realize she forgot her wallet as well. This is how friendships begin. Anyway, lunch went well. She told me about her fear of pork in our first meeting. A little bizarre, but she was interesting.

On the way back to the radio station I stopped at the gas station to fill up the truck. I sent David a text that read: HIRE HER.

So that's how it all started, and I'm happy that she's still putting up with our antics 5 years later.
