Races got underway last weekend at Halvor Lines Speedway in Proctor, a month later than normal, but the excitement was still in the air as racers and fans alike were excited that races are back for the season.  Last Sunday close to 90 cars showed up at the track ready to go.

One of the drivers recalled how as a kid he and his brother and sister would sit on the back straight every Sunday and cheer on their favorite drivers and now he is one of them in the pack every weekend. For many drivers and fans, this is the track to come to watch and race.

Jody Bellefeuille, Owner and Operator Of Number 11 Modified said to FOX 21 last week:

Yeah it’s pretty much an adrenaline rush, last night was our opening night so there’s always the first race jitters, don’t want to crash the car and scratch it up but we got that out of the way right away and it’s getting to be a lot of fun.

For many of the drivers, the race season is a family reunion of sorts as they sometimes hang out before or after the races for a meal together. When they are on the track it is competitive but off the track, they are good friends with a common bond of the love of racing.

The Halvor Lines Speedway is open every Sunday through September for races where gates open at 4'oclock. Starting in June they have special events starting like kid's bike races and old-timers night and picnic. Even though I have never seen it in person, the video I have seen of the school bus races looks like an absolute blast! It's nice to see some of these summer events back on for weekly fun for people of ages in the area.
