It certainly has been a hot topic for debate in the Northland, and now a group is adding more fuel to the fire.  Great Lakes Patrol is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who kills a wolf illegally.

According to WDIO:

Great Lakes Patrol says it created the reward program in response to recent wolf killings in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It says another factor was the appearance of Facebook sites promoting unlawful attacks on the predators.

Founder Rod Coronado says members will circulate reward posters around the towns of Newberry and Gulliver, where dead wolves were discovered.

Rewards will be offered for other illegal kills in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

As for my take on this, I definitely am against people going out in the woods and illegally HUNTING these wolves.  But what if they were a threat?  With wolf population increasing, I've noticed more wolf sign and hear them closer than ever before to our cabin in Northern Minnesota.  We are at the point now where if I go out for a hike I bring a gun with for protection.  This surely is going to be a topic that will continue to be debated for years to come.
