Free National Weather Service Skywarn Training Class Held Thursday April 13th In Duluth
Each spring, the National Weather Service holds classes across the country educating people on how to spot severe weather. It's called Skywarn, and it's a great way to not only understand how to identify severe weather, but also help with the warning systems in place with the National Weather Service.A free 2 hour class will be held at the First United Methodist Church (The Copper Top Church) at 6:30 on Thursday April 13th.
There is no need to register, you can just show up. At the end of the training, you'll become an official weather spotter. Then, in the future, when you identify dangerous weather clouds or patterns, you can call into the National Weather service with your ID and help warn others in the area. It's a very valuable resource that has saved many lives since it was first instituted in the 1970's.
I took this class years ago when I live in Southern Minnesota, and it was very interesting. I learned a lot about how tornadoes form and what they look like as they are forming. I also learned how to spot hail clouds and severe thunderstorm super cells.
