Former Lynx Guard Becomes First Female Men’s College Basketball Coach
Congratulations to Tamara Moore who has become the first female to be appointed as head coach for Mesabi Range College men's basketball team in Virginia, Minnesota . According to Bring Me The News Moore was a star basketball player at Minneapolis North High School and was named Minnesota's Miss Basketball winner in 1998.
Moore played college basketball at The University of Wisconsin Madison and was inducted into the university's athletics hall of fame in 2017. Moore played six full seasons in the WNBA, starting her career as a rookie for the Minnesota Lynx in 2002 and she also played for the Los Angeles Sparks.
Even with multiple women working as assistant coaches in the NBA so far men's college basketball has been very elusive for women to hold any coaching positions except according to Think Progress, "Edniesha Curry at the University of Maine was the only woman working as an assistant coach in all of Division I men's college basketball.
