What if you could have access to thousands of lake maps on your smartphone?  Well you can with Navionics.  It's a pretty amazing app, and I just bought it this weekend gearing up for fishing.  I don't have the fancy equipment on my boat, but this is cheap and quick to learn.  It's $9.99 for all the lakes in the US. I have a motor and a trolling motor and that's about it.  I've been guessing the depths of where I'm at.  With this app, it shows you where the depths, drop offs, vegetation, rocks, and everything is at.  Plus it's gps ready so you can see exactly where you are on the lake.

Once you download the app, select the area you'll be fishing and download it off your wi-fi or on your computer at home.  You can search for lakes, or go by nearby areas.  Once you download it, it's on your phone. Plus you can share info with other fisherman using the app.

It is important to remember though that you should not just rely on this for navigational purposes.  If you lose signal, or drop your phone, be sure you know how to get back on some of those tricky lakes.

It's available on itunes and google play.
