The Douglas County Public Health has announced the first confirmed case in the county of COVID-19 Coronavirus. Mayor Jim Paine shared the news on a Facebook post around 11:30am on Friday, March 20th.

Officials believe that the case is travel related. The patient appears to be doing well and is in self isolation. The county is working on identifying anyone that has had close contact with this person.

This news is alarming, but expected as more test results from the region are returned.  The county reminds the public that there is no specific anti-viral treatment for the drug, and also there is no vaccine available. They offer best precautions to help protect yourself and your family:

  • stay home when sick
  • frequent hand washing for 20 seconds with soap and water
  • cover coughs and sneezes
  • avoid touching your face
  • clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces
  • practice social distancing (6 feet away from others)
  • avoid public gatherings of more than 10 people
