You Gotta Try These Mouthwatering Quesabirria Tacos In Downtown Duluth
It was about three years ago when I was first introduced to quesabirria tacos, also called 'birria tacos.' They have been surging in popularity, and Mexican restaurants have been adding them to their menu if they haven't already offered them.
What Are Quesabirria Tacos?
Birria tacos are crispy, pan-fried corn tortillas filled with shredded beef and melted cheese. They are dipped in fat and served with the savory broth that you can dip the taco into. It's heaven. It's definitely my favorite Mexican dish, and maybe even my favorite food overall. Seriously, they are that good!
I noticed the other day that Emiliano's Mexican Restaurant in downtown Duluth was advertising them. I like to support businesses downtown because we need to continue to revitalize the area. Plus, I like having food options for lunch when I'm working downtown. I've had several different menu items from Emiliano's, like Carne Asada, Chorizo Queso, Tacos, nachos, and more. When I saw the quesabirria, I ordered it right away.
It only took them about 20 minutes for my order to be ready. I got the notification that it was ready and grabbed it to go.

Their menu describes their quesabirria tacos as:
The Tijuana- born tacos are at Emilianos. Savory birria de res (beef birria ) with melting cheese, onions, and cilantro. Served with two spicy salsas, rice, beans and the dipping broth for a delightful feast
The tacos were hearty and delicious. It had just enough spice and a hint of smokiness in the beef. The tortillas were crispy, and the cheese was plentiful. It was also served with refried beans and rice. The price was $14.99, which, to be honest, isn't that much these days, considering it was a very filling portion.

It came with two salsas that were described as spicy in the menu. I'm not a huge spice guy, but I did try them. They were way too spicy for me. So if you're someone who likes the heat, give it a try. I was happy with dipping it in the beef broth.
Here's a tip if you're ordering it to go. Make sure you have a small bowl you can pour the broth into to make dipping easier. The broth comes in a to-go cup, and it's not ideal for dipping.
Overall, these are solid birria tacos that I will definitely be ordering again. Check them out for yourself at Emilian's Mexican Restaurant at 220 W Superior Street in Downtown Duluth.
