According to their Facebook page, the Duluth Superior Pride Committee held a meeting on Tuesday and have decided to cancel this year's Pride Festival.

The committee said in the press release because they were uncertain of the safety in holding the 2020 Pride Festival they have decided to cancel for this year. Bayfront Festival Park has always been the host of the labor day event. The 2020 Pride Festival was scheduled for September 5th this year.

The committee did mention on the Facebook page it was not an easy decision because of the importance to the LGBTQIA2S+ community. It is an event that many people look forward to celebrating.

The committee went on to say that they could not guarantee a safe plan and did not want to risk the lives of people becoming ill with the COVID-19 virus. The committee did say they are open to alternative celebrations and would love to have open discussions with anyone who had an idea to keep the celebration top of mind and keep people aware of issues that are discussed at the event.

This is the first time in the 33 years of the Festival that they have had to cancel the event.

This year's Pride event featured a brand new logo designed in a contest they held on their Facebook page. The winning artist was invited to attend all the events and won a $300 prize. The new logo for the 2020 Pride festival! was submitted by Melissa Gerads. The committee revealed the new logo on the Facebook page in mid-April.
