How amazing is this? A Duluth songwriter was nominated for a top prize at the CMA Awards Wednesday morning (August 28th).

The nominations for country music's biggest night were unveiled and a song written by our Northland native Jordan Schmidt snagged a nomination in the competitive Song Of The Year Category. He wrote the #1 hit 'God's Country' along with country stars Devin Dawson and HARDY.

Blake Shelton took to Twitter after the big news to congratulate them and thank them for the song.

Ahhh! The award is given to songwriters in that category which means he may be taking home a CMA Award of his own later this year. The song was also nominated in the Single Of The Year category, with the award going to the artists, producers and mix engineers.

This is definitely an amazing accomplishment and means all the more knowing that the songwriter hails from Duluth! I don't know about you but I will be celebrating all week long by listening to a ton of his previous hits.

By the way - God's Country was released in March and went number one in July. It has since gone platinum, selling over one million copies and counting. It's also been one of the biggest songs of Blake Shelton's career and of the year so far.
