Last year, Northland residents received a little good news and a little bad news from the Duluth International Airport and Sun Country Airlines. Since most people like to hear the bad news first to get it out of the way, the bad news was that the round-trip direct flights to Phoenix that had been available from Duluth during the winter would no longer be offered.

However, the good news was that the round-trip direct flights to Fort Meyers, Florida would once again be available beginning in February 2024. Sun Country Service to Fort Myers will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. Tickets are on sale now at SunCountry.com. The service will continue through April 22, 2024.

That means that avid golfers can once get in a few extra rounds, while baseball lovers can fly directly to the city that hosts Minnesota Twins spring training.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
