Dolly Parton was honored to both host and perform on Saturday Night Live on April 15, 1989.

"Oh, it really is great to be here in New York. I always have a good time here. But I have to be honest with you, though, I was a little nervous and a little worried about coming here. You know, it's Saturday Night Live and all, and you hear all kinds of things, but, don't you folks believe that for a minute! These folks have gone out of their way to make me feel like one of the family," she remarked during her opening monologue 30 years ago.

Parton was joined by a number of special guests and SNL regulars during the episode, including Conan O'Brien, Mike Myers, Ben Stiller, Jack Nicholson, Jeanne Dixon and Victoria Jackson.

She also had the special treat of acting in several sketches written just for her, like "Planet of the Enormous Hooters," as well as "Sprockets," "The Stories of Dolly Parton's Mom," "Broadway Story," "Lothar of the Hill People," and "Celebrity Restaurant." Of course, some of the skits poked fun at her chest size and the mixed reviews she gathered as an actress.

Parton has been impersonated on SNL for years, starting early in 1979 (by actress Jane Curtin), then again that year on the May 19 episode in "Rock Against Yeast" and "Veterans of Foreign Hairdos" sketch. Years later, in 2006, Parton was portrayed by Amy Poehler, but most recently Kristen Wiig played the country icon in a January 2011 monologue.
