DNR Releases Funeral Service Details For Conservation Officer Grell
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has announced funeral service details for Conservation Officer Sarah Grell, who was killed in the line of duty Monday, May 24 as the result of a two vehicle accident near Grand Rapids.
The visitation, which is open to the public, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 28 at the IRA Civic Center, located at 1401 NW 3rd Avenue in Grand Rapids. The funeral, which will be held at the same location and is also open to the public, will follow at 1:00 p.m.
The DNR notes there will be no funeral procession. Parking for the public will be available in the Civic Center parking lot, along Legion Lane/Northwest 14th Street, and in the parking lot of the Grand Rapids High School, located at 800 NW Conifer Drive n Grand Rapids.
Conservation Officer Sarah Grell, 39, was stationed in Grand Rapids and leaves behind a husband and three children. She served as a conservation officer since 2005 and had a deeply held dedication to serving Minnesota’s people and natural resources. She was part of a proud family legacy – her uncle, father and grandfather also worked as conservation officers. Her husband Gene works for DNR’s Forestry Division and her mother worked for DNR Fisheries until her retirement.
A Sarah Grell Memorial & Grell Family Fund GoFundMe page was established this week and has already raised nearly $40,000. The page, which was established by a Grand Rapids residents who is a friend of the family, says funds raised will "help support the Grell family with memorial expenses and their family's future needs. The funds will be going directly to Sarah's husband, Gene Grell."
