Last week brought an appropriately silly-seeming first look at Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s surprise Lifetime movie A Deadly Adoption, though the full trailer paints a decidedly different picture. The spoof is subtler, but just what kind of movie will A Deadly Adoption turn out to be?

We’re conditioned to expect subversion and spoof from the likes of Ferrell and Wiig, which may itself prove A Deadly Adoption’s greatest strength in paying homage to classic Lifetime films. In a parallel universe, one might not look twice at the latest trailer, in which both stars perfectly play straight their parts of an average, unfunny couple. It’s eerie, even.

Set to premiere on Saturday, June 20, A Deadly Adoption sees Ferrell and Wiig providing a “campy and fun and a contemporary wink at the genre” in celebration of Lifetime’s 25 years of original movies. The movie stars the two SNL alum as a well-to-do couple who offer their home to a young pregnant woman (90210 star Jessica Lowndes), in hopes of adopting her child.

Both Ferrell and frequent film partner Adam McKay produced A Deadly Adoption under the Gary Sanchez banner, directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg and written by The Spoils of Babylon scribe Andrew Steele. You can judge for yourself in the latest trailer above, before this Saturday’s debut.
