Minnesota’s Most Common Home Repair Might Surprise You
Owning a home in Minnesota comes with plenty of pride—and plenty of projects that pop up when you least expect them. A new survey just revealed the repair task Minnesotans deal with more than any other, and it might not be the one you’d guess.
Minnesota Ranks Among Top States for Homeownership in U.S.
Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but it could also be known as the land of 2.4 million homes. The latest Minnesota Compass survey says there are just under 2.5 million homes that are inhabited right now in the North Star State.
And, according to Bankrate.com, Minnesota is one of the top ten states in the country when it comes to homeownership rates. In fact, the Bold North ranks 8th on that list, with 75.1 percent of Minnesotans owning their own home. That's well over the national rate of just over 65 percent.

But when you DO own a home, one of the biggest chores of which you're now on the hook is keeping that home up. Whether it's a leaky roof, water pouring into your basement, or a toilet that's overflowing, there are a LOT of different things that periodically need to be repaired on or in your home.
Survey Reveals Minnesota’s Most Common Home Repair Struggle
The crew over at Roto-Rooter did a survey to find out just WHICH home repair Minnesotans tackle the most. Roto-Rooter surveyed 1,000 homeowners in April 2024 to uncover the biggest home repair struggles. Specifically, they looked at Google Trends data across 20 common home repair terms between 2004 to 2024 to determine the top-searched repair in every U.S. state.
And while Roto-Rooter found that faucet repair was the top-searched home repair over the past two decades. 11 states, including Iowa and Wisconsin, listed repairing leaky faucets as the most common home repair.
In second place, a leaky, overflowing, or improperly running toilet came in as the second-most common home repair, noted in 8 different states. In addition to those, there were a couple of other unique standouts, like termite damage repair topping the list in Hawaii, or foundation repair in Texas. But none of those repairs was the most common here in Minnesota.

Broken Windows Are the Top Fix for Minnesota Homeowners
Here in the Gopher State, fixing a broken window is the most common home repair Minnesotans are tasked with doing. That fun chore was also the most common home repair in Illinois, California, Nevada, and Oregon as well. Not that repairing or replacing a window is fun, mind you, because it certainly isn't!
And while many home repair projects aren't inexpensive these days, I'm guessing they cost even more for the Most Expensive Home in Minnesota. Keep scrolling to take a look at this amazing house mansion!
