This might take you back a bit! There is a new COVID-19 variant making headlines these days. The variant is called the 'cicada' variant and similar to past variants for the most part, except for one thing.

First and foremost, I should say that this new variant is not a reason to panic - not that any of the symptoms sound fun. The most common symptoms, according to Stony Brook Medicine, include cough, fatigue, low energy, fever and body aches, among others.

The only thing that really sets this variant apart from variants past is its ability to spread quickly. It is highly contagious and can infect people with prior immunity. While this variant is highly contagious, it isn't more severe than others.

Because it spreads so quickly, this variant has made its way to about half the country at the time of writing. Has it made its way to Minnesota yet?

Has The New 'Cicada' COVID Variant Made Its Way To Minnesota?

There is some good news at the moment. This new variant has not yet made its way to Minnesota. According to the CDC, it has made its way to about 25 states right now and more could follow.

The new variant has been reported everywhere from California to Michigan to New York to Ohio. As of now, it has not been reported in Wisconsin yet either. It also is not the dominant strain.

As always, make sure you are washing your hands and staying home if you are sick. There's lots of icky stuff going around and none of it is fun!
