Many kids in the area come from struggling families or families on the edge, CHUM Duluth is helping with a backpack drive.

You can donate money directly for CHUM to purchase the backpack and supplies or you can buy a pack to be delivered.

Click here and you can purchase a backpack online by August 12th and Educational Products, Inc. will ship it to CHUM in time for the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Department Back to School Fair on August 22.   Or Click Here and you can donate right to CHUM for a backpack to be purchased for you.  You may also purchase backpacks and supplies locally and drop them off at CHUM.

Here's what is in each pack if you should decide to buy the supplies on your own:

Kindergarten - 5th Grade

  • 3 -  1 Subject wide-ruled spiral notebooks
  • 3 -  Assorted pocket only folders
  • 1 -  Colorations crayons, 24 ct.
  • 1 -  16" X 11" X 5" backpack
  • 2 - Colorations purple small washable glue stick, .32 oz.
  • 6 - No. 2 yellow pencils (latex-free)
  • 1 - Blunt 5" scissors
  • 1 - Colorations washable broad markers, 8 ct.

6th - 12th Grades

  • 6 - No. 2 yellow pencils (latex-free)
  • 3 -  Black medium stick pens
  • 3 -  1 Subject college-ruled spiral non-perforated notebooks, 70 pages
  • 1 - Hardback vinyl binder
  • 1 - college-ruled 8" x 10.5" filler paper, 200 ct.
  • 3 - Assorted pocket folders
  • 1 - 7" Presharpened colored pencils, 12 ct
  • 1 - 17" X 12" X 5" backpack with side mesh pockets

The City of Duluth Back To School Fair takes place August 22 from noon to 4 pm in these locations:

  • Central Hillside Community Center - 12 East 4th Street
  • Morgan Park Community Center - 1242 88th Avenue West
  • Portman Community Center - 4601 McCulloch Street
