Chris Young Headlines A Fall Night Of Country Music At AMSOIL [PHOTOS]
A nearly full house at AMSOIL Arena enjoyed a night of country music on Saturday, headlined by Chris Young and his "Raised on Country" Tour.
Up-and-comer Arkansas native Matt Stell opened the evening, introducing himself to the Twin Ports crowd with "Reason Why" off his 2019 "Everywhere But On" EP. Stell played a handful of originals, as well as covers like John Michael Montgomery's "Sold" and "Sex On Fire" by rockers Kings of Leon. He drew his set to a close with his big radio hit "Prayed For You" and "Better I Drink", both off his "Everywhere But On" EP.
Mike Eli, James Young, and the rest of the Eli Young Band followed Stell, playing a series of the band's hits like "Dust", "Love Ain't", and "Drunk Last Night". Eli paused mid-set to acknowledge that they were playing on "hallowed hockey ground", calling out the back-to-back NCAA Champion UMD Bulldogs and mentioning UMD greats like Brett Hull. The Texas-based act wrapped up their set with hits "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" and "Crazy Girl".
Headliner Chris Young kicked off his set with "Hangin' On", followed by hits like "Gettin' You Home", "Lonely Eyes", "Losing Sleep", and "I Can Take It From There." Young slowed his set down, covering Keith Whitley classic "Don't Close Your Eyes", before kicking things back up a notch with "Hold My Beer, Watch This", and the namesake song of his tour "Raised On Country".
Young paid homage to a couple other country greats during his set, giving a shoutout to Vince Gill before performing "Sober Saturday Night", being he and Gill recorded the album version of the song together. Young also performed a Garth Brooks cover, singing "Papa Loved Mama" toward the end of his set, wrapping up his night with his hit "Aw Naw".
