In a press release, the City Of Duluth Announced they will open the Bayfront Rink for Public skating.

The Rink will open Saturday, January 9th from noon to 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays and on Monday thru Friday, the rink is open from 3 to 7 pm. The warming house will not open. There will be a Bonfire available to keep warm next to the warming house.

There will be concessions available on Saturdays and Sundays during regular business hours, but the press release neglected to say when that is.

There will be skates available to borrow on the weekends too if you should find yourself needing a pair. This comes as good news to most adults. I know talking to my friends, most of them have not purchased new skates for themselves even though their kids have skates.

This brings us back to a little bit of normal. That's what we do in the Twin Ports, we skate. That's the thing to do down there, bring the kids to skate and enjoy the cold weather. That is what winter is about in the Northland.

With COVID and the fact that our temps have been warmer that has been hindering people from skating. Granted, the warming house isn't open, but you can sit by the bonfire and be warm. Everyone is so used to not having things to do outside, so this is a welcomed activity for everyone.

With Hockey and other Winter sports about to start, soon, bars, restaurants opening a little, this is making things feel like we have a light at the end of the tunnel and that we have hope. Sprit Mountain is open to so people can start to enjoy winter again.
