The first Boo At Zoo of the season is this Saturday, October 13 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Lake Superior Zoo.  From past experience, here are 5 things you should bring:

YOUR KIDS IN A WARM COSTUME!
This one is a given.  What would a fun, safe trick-or-treating event be without the kids?!  However, make sure they come in a costume that will keep them warm should it turn out to be a cold day.  It's always best to layer with costumes so that if they get hot, they can remove a layer.  I'd also recommend stretchy gloves to keep hands warm, as they can get cold collecting all that candy.

YOUR PATIENCE
Boo At The Zoo is fun, but it does require patience as finding a parking spot can take some time, not to mention the line getting in.  Once inside, parents may be tested by kids getting tired, having to use the bathroom, getting too hot/cold, etc.  You just need to go with the flow, realizing it's a long but ultimately fun day.

SOME ADDITIONAL MONEY
Everyone knows there's a cost to get into Boo At The Zoo, but I've learned that even though there's candy being handed out all over the place, kids will want a non-candy snack.  Whether it's a hot dog, hot chocolate, or whatever you kids love, there will be options available. Perhaps set a spending limit of $5 for each kids before you go into the zoo.

POP CULTURE KNOWLEDGE
I'm always embarrassed when handing out candy when I don't know what the costume is. Sure, there's always some great Spiderman, Batman and Star Wars costumes, but there's always new shows and trends that show up at Boo At The Zoo. You don't want to seem like the out of touch parent, so brush up on what's popular so you can give shout-outs to kid's costumes while walking around.  You could even talk to your kids ahead of time about what the popular costumes are this year because they know best!

YOUR SWEET TOOTH
Yes, Boo At The Zoo is a kids event, but there's nothing wrong with getting some candy for yourself.  Don't pretend to not like candy while you are there, only to rob from your kids later.  Embrace you inner-child and if you see a favorite candy being handed out at a booth, get one or three for yourself.

If you're at Boo At The Zoo Saturday between 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., look for Chris Allen and I handing out candy!

The Lake Superior Zoo will not only have Boo At The Zoo October 13, but it happens again Saturday, October 20, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
