2024 William A. Irvin 5K Sells Out In Record Time
One of the best 5K races in Minnesota is officially sold out - and in record time! The 2024 William A. Irvin 5K has officially hit capacity. The 3.1 miler is part of Grandma's Marathon weekend and takes place on the Friday before the half and the full marathon.

The race usually does sell out but this year, it did so the earliest that it ever has, making it one for the record books! It also sold out about five months ahead of the 2023 race, which hit capacity in April. In 2018 and 2019, the race sold out in mid-December, which held the record for the earliest sellouts before this one.
The William A. Irvin 5K takes runners through Canal Park, across a bunch of different tourist destinations and of course, kicks off and finishes by the famous ship. More than 2,600 runners will take the course next year!
I have run it and it is so much fun! I love that it takes place on a summer night and that it helps to kick off all the fun of the weekend. It is also my favorite course of any race because it takes you throughout the best parts of the area, including Canal Park, with the Irvin and Lake Superior in the background.
By the way, the 2023 race ended up making history as well but for a different reason. It was one of the largest races in the history of the 5k, where over 2,000 people finished the race. Now, the 2024 race is in the history books as well!

If you want to take part but didn't sign up, there are still some spots available (at the time of writing) for the Great Grandma's Challenge, which gets you entry into the 5K and the full marathon. You can also fundraise for a charity partner to gain entry into the race of your choice. Good luck!
