2020 Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival Cancelled
The Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival, slated for August 21-22, 2020 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The festival has traditionally been Superior, Wisconsin's largest event each year.
The Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival Executive Committee carefully deliberated on the decision to cancel, and decided it was in the best interest to keep racers and spectators safe during this pandemic. Health officials and the Center for Disease Control calls for social distancing and avoiding large groups of people.
The Dragon Boat Festival is held yearly at Barker's Island in Superior, and attracts thousands of racers and spectators. It's put on by Twin Ports area Rotary Clubs and is a huge fundraiser each year generating tens of thousands of dollars that are put back into the community.
Social distancing measures would not be practical for this event. In the dragon boats alone, there are 20 people in a very tight seating arrangement.
Mark Johnson, Co-Chair of the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival wanted to thank those partners who had committed to the 2020 race,
