Recently, Red Lobster announced it was hoping to find a buyer as it was looking to avoid filing for bankruptcy, which it had considered to help restructure its debt and get out of several costly and lengthy leases.

Multiple sources had reported that Red Lobster had faced many challenges, including the loss of key leadership. From a financial standpoint, a recent setback happened last summer when the seafood chain revived its endless shrimp menu deal, leading to an $11 million loss.

It had become increasingly unclear exactly how the restaurant chain would free itself from its financial trouble. On Monday, they made a significant move, much to the surprise of employees throughout the country.

According to reports, Red Lobster has closed 87 locations in 27 states, including Wisconsin. The Red Lobster website has restaurants listed as 'temporarily closed'. However, a liquidation company announced it is conducting an online auction of Red Lobster kitchen equipment and other contents of the closed restaurant locations.
