WLSSD Is Looking For Your Food Scraps

Composting has become very big lately. It saves on garbage build up, smell, and is in demand by people growing their own food. WLSSD is taking it and has some good tips to compost at home.

According to their website WLSSD says if you want to drop off compost to them, here's how to do it.

Food Waste Drop-Off Instructions

Collecting Scraps for Drop-off
Keep a container lined with a compostable bag near the kitchen sink for plate scrapings and prep scraps. Wrap smelly food, like fish, in newspaper and freeze. Place food scraps in securely tied compostable bags. Never use plastic shopping bags. Twist-ties are OK.

Compostable Bags
Only use approved compostable bags with the Biodegradable Products Institute logo. Two sizes of free replacement bags are available at WLSSD-staffed drop sites or for purchase at Duluth area businesses including Marshall Hardware, Ace Hardware, Whole Foods Co-op, and Twin Ports Paper & Supply.

You can drop off anything that is or was edible: raw and cooked food, meat, fish, small bones, spoiled/moldy food, fruits, vegetables, peels & pits, cheese, bread, dough, pasta, rice, old pet food, tea bags, coffee grounds & filter.

Please don't drop off pet waste, kitty litter, diapers, liquids, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, regular plastic bags and containers, dirt, rocks
