The 2018 Tony Awards were broadcast Sunday night and while the awards traditionally honor the best of Broadway theatre, high school students from Parkland, Florida stole the show.

The Tony Awards did something special by letting students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, perform in honor of their theatre teacher, Melody Herzfeld, who was named the recipient of the 2018 Excellence in Theatre Education Award, presented by Carnegie Mellon.

The song the students sang was "Seasons Of Love", a standout from the musical Rent.  The lyrics ask what the proper way is to quantify the value of a year in human life, concluding in the chorus that the most effective means is to "measure in love".

Needless to say, having students from a school that has had to overcome the tragedy of a school shooting perform such a song was a standout point of the awards show, earning an emotional response from everyone.
