Barkers Island

There's something new coming to Superior as the AMSOIL Powerboat Championship takes place this weekend.  The event will be held off Barker's Island, near the Whaleback ship.  It's free to the public, however there will be a $5 charge for parking.

Barker's Island Inn in Superior was recently recognized by the American Cancer Society.  That award doesn't include ALL that Barker's Island Inn, their General Manager, Charlie Johnson and his staff has done to help in raising thousands of dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The massive wall of ice at Barkers Island in Superior Wisconsin has crumbled down as of this morning.  The project was expected to reach 90 feet wide and 75 feet high by mid February.  There hasn't been comment yet on why the failure happened, but one could speculate that the odd weather temperature changes could have something to do with it.

Driving home this afternoon I took a quick detour to see for myself the Wall of Ice project that artist Roger Hanson has been working on.  There is a noticeable difference than what I saw just a few days ago.

It's finally race weekend!  The Benna Ford Roush Superior Watercross Shootout starts at 10am both Saturday and Sunday, with tickets available at the gate. You've heard about the races, you know about the food, drinks and the Saturday night party at the Barkers Island Inn.  However, you may not be too familiar with the International Watercross Association.

We are getting very close to the first races in the 2014 Benna Ford Roush Superior Watercross Shootout.  As we get closer to August 16th, I'm getting more and more people asking me about the event and if it's only for die hard racing fans.  The short answer is no, you don't have be a big time racing fan to enjoy this event and for several reasons.

Joey Strub is an IWA racer that last year was not able to participate in the Benna Ford Roush Superior Watercross Shootout due to a family emergency.  We had a chance to talk to him today about what he expects, and how bad he wants to win the Pro Open Ovals.

What?  Snowmobile racing in the summer?  Who the heck does that?  Well the International Watercross Association does. And it's the latest sport to be growing in multiple states, including right here in the Northland.  They modify the sleds and race on water which is exciting for the fans to watch.  There's also a few other reasons it's better in the summer.

The Benna Ford Roush Superior Watercross Shootout is almost here!  August 16th and 17th will be an exciting weekend at the Barker's Island Festival Park and you don't want to miss a second of it!  You've met some of the drivers through blog interviews, some of you may be following the IWA circuit and still others have favorite drivers their planning to cheer on to victory.  But, what do they win? 

The 2nd Annual Benna Ford Roush Superior Watercross Shootout is coming to Barker's Island on August 16th and 17th.  We expect everyone who was there last year to be back, but if this is your first year, you may wonder what you should bring to the event...

The first Superior Watercross Shootout is in the books, and spectators and race drivers are equally excited about the first-time Twin Ports event. Beautiful weather and lots of high-speed action brought crowds to the shore of Barker's Island as over 100 competitors hit the water in drag and oval racing in both stock and modified classes.
