Superior’s Latest Restaurant ‘Wasabi’ Sushi Review

During our April blizzard this last weekend, we decided that it would be a good time to try the new sushi restaurant in Superior.  We've driven by many times and have seen how busy it has been.  We figured who else would be going out during the storm, so we would be sure to get a table.

It opened at noon, and there was already a line of people waiting for it to open.  While we were waiting for a seat, we made small talk with a woman.

"Have you guys been here yet?" she asked.

"No it's our first time," we replied.

"Get the all you can eat, it's so good and it's worth the money."

We then were seated in the restaurant that was once O'Neils Pub.  I honestly wouldn't not have recognized the interior if I hadn't of known.  It's nicely decorated with a Japanese theme as you would expect, but it's not like they are trying to trick you into thinking you're in Japan.  It's a relaxed ambience, well lit, and they are even playing contemporary music over the speakers..

I have to admit, the ordering was a little confusing at first.  There was a paper sheet for all you can eat, but I didn't realize that's where you filled it out like an order slip.  It was my first time at an all you can eat sushi place, so I don't know if this is common practice or not.

We decided we weren't that hungry and we wanted to see how good it was first before spending the $20 each on the all you can eat menu.

My wife and I both got the Miso Soup, and then got 5 maki rolls to share.  They were the 2 Philadelphias, The Crunch Roll, Spicy Tuna, The Boston Roll,

The soup came first and was great.  It had more texture and a bit more ingredients than I've seen at other restaurants.  There was more too it, and I liked it.

The sushi rolls came out relatively quick and we dug in.  The sushi rolls were very fresh.  Although these were still the maki rolls which are smaller than the hand rolls, they were very full.  The Philadelphia roll had more salmon in it than any other sushi restaurant I've been to.

There was plenty of texture to the sushi as well, and the ingredients were more plentiful.  Simply put, it was fantastic.  The Boston roll had fresh, crisp lettuce in it.  The spicy tuna was spicier than normal, but not too much.  My new favorite is their crunch roll.  That was great.  We were stuffed, and our bill came to $36.  That's not ridiculous price for Sushi and it was not a lunch special price because we were there on a weekend.  But even knowing they do have lunch specials, I will definitely get the all you can eat next time and bring my appetite.

Service was really good, but it also wasn't that busy because of the snow storm.  There were more people there than I expected.

A lot of people make the obvious comparison to another Sushi restaurant in the Twin Ports which is Hanabi on social media.  I'm not going to say one is better than the other, because they are different restaurants that have their own take on the food.  I will say that neither place will leave you disappointed, and that I'm very happy to have a quality Sushi place on the Superior side of the bridge.  We will definitely be back.
