The Superior City Council voted unanimously last night to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana. In this case, small amounts mean less than 25 grams.

Police Chief Nicholas Alexander supported the ordinance change, while still emphasizing that it is still illegal. In his words, it now just gives the police another tool in arrests that won't follow someone around for life on their criminal record.

The ordinance was introduced by councilman Craig Sutherland and the goal was to prevent lifelong consequences of marijuana possession to show up on people's criminal record.
