The storm that ripped through the Northland early Thursday morning not only destroyed trees, knocked out power and caused damage, but now there are storm-related fatalities being reported in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

The Duluth News Tribune is reporting that the Basswood Lake area near Ely was hit hard by the storm and that at least one party of nine campers suffered multiple injuries and two reported fatalities.  The St. Louis County Rescue Squad was assisting Lake County in that area, and a U.S. Forest Service float plane was also involved in the efforts.

The party of 9 campers is affiliated with the Boy Scouts Of America and the victims were a 39-year old female volunteer and a 13-year old boy.

This is a developing story and more specifics are expected throughout the day.
