It's one of Northern Minnesota's most recognizable landmarks in Bemidji: Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. Recently vandals sprayed graffiti on it, requiring a quick paint job to fix the damage. The vandalism occurred sometime during the overnights of Jan 1 or 2nd.

The word "Genocide" was painted on Babe's flank area. Workers from the City's Park & Rec department quickly painted over it with blue paint, and then later it was repainted with the correct matching blue.

According to the Bemidji Pioneer, this isn't the first time it's been vandalized over the years, but usually the well lit area discourages vandals.

There is a camera pointed at the statues from Paul Bunyan Communications, but unfortunately it did not capture the footage of the vandal, as it clears out its storage space too frequently. They are looking at addressing this for the future.
