The Duluth Police Department has announced that registration is now open for the 2019 Citizens' Police Academy, which is a great way to experience all that goes into police work.

The Citizen Police Academy begins Wednesday, March 13 and then meets every Wednesday for 12 weeks, ending Wednesday, May 29.  The academy will meet each week from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in a course that consists of both classroom and field instruction regarding the various responsibilities facing local law enforcement.

The academy is offered to those who live and work in Duluth.  Class attendees receive information and instruction several issues, including:

  • Use of force
  • Narcotics enforcement
  • Patrol operations
  • Criminal investigations
  • Death investigation
  • Demonstrations by the K-9 Unit

You'll also have the opportunity to ride along with an officer and engage in actual firearms use with some of the department's specialized weapons.
