Summer in the Northland is not complete without several visitsto the beach on Park Point!  The beach is open to the public complete with lifeguards, the option of borrowing a life jacket and a warning of risky swimming.

The beach and the Park Point Beach House opens today and the Duluth YMCA will be providing lifeguards from 11a-4p on days the weather cooperates.  However, the weather is the reason why they are saying that swimming is risky right now.

According to wdio.com, the temperature of the water is in the mid-40's right now which is 5 to 10 degrees cooler than normal.  If you think back to just a few weeks ago, there was huge hunks of ice still floating in Lake Superior.  While ice may not be visible now, it's still making an impact.

The Northland's News Center reports that the US Coast Guard Auxiliary has provided life jackets.  They are available to you in the Park Point Beach House.  Another helpful hint is to watch for the flags that will give additional warnings such as rip tides and dangerously high winds.

Remember sunscreen and have a fantastic summer frolicking on the beach at Park Point!
