What in the name of pizza is going on here? It looks like Papa John's will be getting one less Christmas card this holiday season.

Northern Minnesota pizza company Heggies isn't happy after the food giant poked fun at frozen pizzas on Twitter. (No, you are not being pranked. This is a real story and it is amazing.)

It all started a few weeks ago when Papa John's likened frozen pizza to a participation trophy to their half-a-million Twitter followers. The tweet was deleted but several pizza companies still responded to it, with the most famous being DiGiornio.

Like the other frozen pizza companies, Heggies also didn't find the tweet funny and decided to fight back. The company sent out a press release Tuesday in response, saying in part, "We’ve been patiently sitting back – like waiting for a hot, just-out-of-the-oven pizza – trying to decide how best to take a bite of the action."

Their idea of taking action? A "Great Pizza Snowdown." They invited Papa John's employees to come to Minnesota with their ingredients and "bells and whistles" and put their money where their mouth is.

No word from Papa John's quite yet on if they will accept the offer but it may make them think twice before burning their competitors on social media. Who knew frozen pizza could be so controversial?

Heggies Pizza is sold in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North & South Dakota and Iowa.

I guess we'll have to see how this one cooks out.
