The 2018 National Night Out is Tuesday, August 7 and the deadline to register your neighborhood event in Duluth is Friday, July 20.

Registering your event by the deadline assures that your event location and details will be published on the City of Duluth website as well as other publications.  It also allows time to get approvals for areas you may need blocked off and to schedule barricade delivery by the City Public Works Department.

According to the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is:

An annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

If your neighborhood hasn't participated in a National Night Out, I would recommend putting one together.  Some areas go all out with big bar-b-ques, music and games for kids of all ages.  I just started participating in recent years and it truly does help develop neighborhood comradery.
