Grandma's Marathon weekend will have more excitement than usual as it was announced that U.S. Olympian and Duluth native, Kara Goucher, is expected to run the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.  She is also scheduled to speak as a part of race-weekend festivities.

According to Grandma's Marathon, Goucher will be one of two featured guest speakers beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, June 16, in the Edmund Fitzgerald Hall at the DECC.  Kara is expected to share her story on how she became one of the nation’s top female distance runners.

Saturday, June 17, she will have an entire city cheering her on as she runs the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.  She is the course record holder with a time of 1:09:45 which was set during the 2012 National Half Marathon Championships hosted in Duluth.
