Kacey Musgrave’s “Same Trailer Different Park” Album Review

I had the chance over the weekend to listen to Kacey Musgrave's "Same Trailer Different Park" album in it's entirety a few times.   That's really the only way you can get a good feel for an album and make sure you didn't miss anything.  Kacey Musgraves really delivers a fresh new sound to country music.  Let me elaborate.

First off, for a 24 year old, she's got some legitimate song writing credentials.  She's written songs for Martina Mcbride, Miranda Lambert, Gretchen Wilson, and more.  She brings those writing abilities to this album, where she co-writes on each track.

This album is beautiful in it's realistic approach to a mundane life.  It's kind of sad, it's a little cynical, and it feels like it was written as a cry for help from a  young woman stuck in a trailer park in town near you, with an uncertain future. It's beautifully written and easy to relate to.  It's interesting that when I listen to the album, my mind wonders back to folks I've met in the small towns I've lived in through the years.   It's a weird feeling, but strangely warm.

"Merry Go Round" is the first single to hit the charts and do well for Musgraves, and the song definitely represents the rest of the album.   A rare fun and uplifting song from the album is "My House."    Her current single "Blowin' Smoke" is an upbeat song too that reminds you of that job you hated, and your big plans to get out of it.  And perhaps my favorite track "Follow Your Arrow," teaches a lesson that people are going to say what they want anyway, so do whatever you want.
