It's spring in the Northland, which of course means a winter storm warning!  If you find yourself stuck at home, pop some corn and enjoy of these three movies that are only better when there is snow blowing around outside.

Want a good winter horror movie?  I'm not talking about some guy in a mask chasing after topless teens.  I'm talking an interesting story with special effects that weren't created on a computer.  The obvious choice is The Shining, but chances are you've seen it many times.

Instead, check out John Carpenter's The Thing.  It takes place in the dead of winter at an American research outpost in Antarctica.  After a unique chain of events, things go horribly wrong for this team of scientists, lead by Kurt Russell.  It's one of my favorite horror movies, but make sure to avoid the horrible remake that came out recently.

After some snowy chills, how about a few laughs?  I'll admit that Hot Tub Time Machine isn't one of the best movies ever made, but it will do the trick for a few cheap laughs.  Plus, how can you go wrong with a movie that sends John Cusack back to 1986 during ski season?  Enjoy the pure crude silliness of it all.

After chills and laughs, you're probably ready to snuggle up with your honey muffin for a film.  Love Actually is a good winter weather choice, but you've probably seen that one.  Instead check out The Holiday starring Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Kate Winslet and Jude Law.  It's one of those movies in this genre that can be enjoyed by both men and women.

Embrace your snowed-in time!
