Highway 23 Undergoing Emergency Repair; Will Reopen Early July

Highway 23 at the south fork of the Nemadji River is just the latest stretch of roadway to undergo a bit of a makeover thanks to some severe weather we saw the weekend of Grandma's Marathon.

According to a post from the Cloquet Police Department, that portion of the highway is undergoing 'an emergency repair.'

The construction is expected to be complete by July 7th. The good news is it could open even earlier depending on the weather.

This isn't completely shocking. Highway 23 has been closed in parts for nearly two weeks, along with many other roadways in the area.

The repairs in question are just temporary for now and gravel will be te finished surface until the Minnesota Department Of Transportation can make more permanent repairs next summer when the highway is already closed for other previously scheduled projects.

For now, MnDOT says they will maintain the new gravel surface to make things as smooth as possible for motorists but encourage everyone to take the detours provided and use I-35 as much as they can until then.
