Duluth Breaks February Snowfall Record

If you feel like there has been a lot of snow this February, you would be absolutely correct. We've seen so much this month that we actually broke a record!

The previous snowfall record for the month of February was 33.9 inches, which was set in 1939. The snow we got on Wednesday brought the official National Weather Service measurement for Duluth to 33.5 inches for the month, which left only four tenths of an inch to hit the record in the final days of February.

With the snow that the Twin Ports received Friday night into the early parts of Saturday, Duluth officially surpassed the previous record, with 34.2 inches being the total snowfall measurement as of noon Saturday (Feb. 23). That puts Duluth three tenths of an inch over the previous record, with five and a half days left in the month to add to the total.

More snow is expected this weekend, with another 1-3 inches expected in the Twin Ports as a strong storm moves to the south and east, mostly impacting areas of central and Northeastern Wisconsin and into the Michigan Upper Peninsula.

For those hoping the snow will end this month, there is some good news ahead. After the few inches the Twin Ports will get this weekend, there are slight chances of dustings of snow on Tuesday and Friday, but no major snow events in the next week or so.
