Chum Raises Awareness and Honors the Homeless in Our City with a Noon Vigil

It amazes me when I hear of the homeless in our area.  But, if you look close, they're there, wandering the city streets in tattered clothing, looking for warmth, a hearty meal and friendship.

Please join Duluth's faith community as they gather on December 24th at Noon on the steps of City Hall to remember and honor our homeless and formerly homeless neighbors who have died this year.

According to Deb Holman,  a CHUM's street outreach worker, 29 individuals and 2 advocates from Duluth have died in the past 12 months.

"The average age of death this year for someone experiencing homelessness in Minnesota," Holman explains, "was 40. Many die alone with no one at their side."

Reverend David Bard of First United Methodist Church will lead the service. A Homeless Bill of Rights will be presented and Deb Holman will read the names of those who have died. Monetary donations or gifts of blankets and winter boots will be appreciated.
