With plenty of people planning travel and various activities for Christmas and the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve, we decided to look into our crystal ball to see what to expect. We give this warning every time we offer an extended forecast, but it's worth saying again. Long-term forecasts (more than 2-3 days) can be unreliable, but it is looking pretty certain next week is going to bring a significant element of winter.

The good news is that we won't see much in the way of snow to impact holiday travel in the Twin Ports area, but bitter cold is looking to bear down on the area. We'll see a couple days where daytime high temperatures aren't expected to get above zero degrees. Adding to the mix is the potential of a little bit of a breeze on Monday and Tuesday (up to 15 mph or so), which will drive windchill values down and make it feel even colder than the forecasted air temperatures.

We'll just call it an early taste of the January deep freeze we normally see in this part of the world. Bundle up, and be sure you have a winter emergency kit in your vehicle while traveling next week. While there won't be a snow issue, if you have car troubles, things like extra warm clothing and blankets are very important when you don't have a running engine to keep things warm inside your vehicle.
