I am always telling you about scams, risks and warnings from local authorities and national companies like the IRS.  Today, I learned of a website that shocked me.  This website allows a person to search, obtain and share your personal information for free.  That just leaves the door wide open and so much easier for your identity to be stolen.

At first I didn't believe it, I couldn't find any info on my name, then there it was.  Everything about me, it was all there, previous relationships, previous addresses and all my current information down to the detail of my birth date.  YIKES!

The website is called Family Tree Now.  This website touts themselves as a place to go to search your family tree.  I'm sure that's what they meant for it to be maybe without thinking that it could offer a location that identity thieves could go to further their quest to steal.  Honestly, I feel violated that the information is available without my permission, but what can you do?  You can opt out and you should!  It's a four step process and I've provided the link below to help you get it done quickly.

Your info isn't deleted immediately, however you at least know about it and can start the process to get yourself off the site as soon as possible.  This is something I plan to share personally with my family and friends, as well as you.  What scares me is that there are probably other sites that offer this info that we are unaware of and again, that's what leads to identity theft, no matter how careful you think you are.
