Last year's Boston Marathon took a tragic turn when the finish line bombing killed 3 people and injured 260.  With that tragedy still fresh on the minds of everyone, American Meb Keflezighi crossed the finish line today as champion.

ESPN.com is reporting that Keflezighi is a former New York City Marathon champion and Olympic silver medalist. He finished in 2 hours, 8 minutes, 37 seconds.  No American runner had won the race since Lisa Larsen-Weidenbach took the women's title in 1985.  No American male runner had won in 30 years.

Most of my family were in Boston last year during those tragic events, either running or spectating and they were only a couple of blocks from the finish line when the bombing took place.  It is a very emotional anniversary for everyone, and so it's very good news that Boston Strong can prevail one year later.
