October is here and that means candy, scary movies and all things spooky. It also means Halloween, of course!

With the big day approaching, you're probably thinking about what you're going to be this year.

Whether you are going for something spooky or funny or a tribute to your favorite movies and shows, it can get a little pricey to get the perfect look.

Stores like Target and Walmart have pre-packed costumes with everything you need right there. While this is convenient, it's a more expensive option than whipping something up yourself - especially if you are only wearing it once or twice during the month.

While buying these manufactured costumes has benefits, there's a good chance many people will have the same idea and show up at your Halloween festivities wearing the same thing. That's about as fun as spending a good chunk of change on it.

If you're looking to think outside the box this Halloween, we have you covered! There are a bunch of cheap, discount stores around the Duluth and Superior area that will give you the same end result but will leave you with much more money in your pocket.

Here are 5 of those out-of-the-box stores you can get your costume at this October.

  • 1

    Goodwill

This is the perfect place to go if you want a costume on the cheap! They have one-of-a-kind items, which ensures you'll be the only one rocking it at Halloween parties. Their merchandise also includes brand names for less so you can get everything you'd get at a big name store for a fraction of the cost. Bonus: there are a few locations around the Duluth area and Superior.

  • 2

    Savers

Savers is similar to Goodwill in that they have gently-used brand name clothing but they REALLY love Halloween. (Have you seen their banners outside their store near Miller Hill Mall?!) The cool thing is that they have brand new costumes in packaging that are exclusive to the store. They also have barely-used items that are great for taking your costume to the next level. None of it will break the bank.

  • 3

    Dollar Tree

What could be better than a Halloween costume that only costs you a few bucks? Nothing. The Dollar Tree is the best place to complete your look this year. They carry just about every accessory you could imagine. They have hats and props and headbands and more. There are a bunch of locations across the Northland so you likely won't have to go out of your way to perfect your outfit this month.

  • 4

    Discount Duluth

This hidden gem is located on Central Avenue and similar to Savers and Goodwill, you won't have to fork out too much dough if you choose to get your costume here. They have clothing that you won't find anywhere else and are constantly restocking so there's a good chance no one else will be rocking it come October 31st. This is also a great place to purchase the basics for your costume, like a shirt or pants.

    Plato's Closet

This is a second-hand store that has a huge selection of clothes, brands and styles. No matter what look you're going for this Halloween, there's a good chance they will have something to help you get there. They even have shoes and accessories for pretty much nothing. If you want to save even more money, bring a few things that have been sitting in your closet to trade in for cash. That way you'll basically break even!
