Grandma's Marathon weekend is coming up June 15 - June 16 and even though they are currently deployed to southwest Asia, the 148th Fighter Wing of the Minnesota National Guard will be participating.

Grandma's Marathon has announced that while the 148th is deployed in support of United States Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT) operations, they will be virtually running the William A. Irvin 5K.

The virtual race provides an option in which registered participants can participate from anywhere in the world.  Runners are able to plan their race during an appropriate time of the day and schedule it around their current obligations.

All participants will be awarded the 25th Annual William A. Irvin 5K participant shirts, finisher medals and commemorative socks, just like runners of the June 15 race in Duluth.

Grandma's Marathon weekend is always a festive time in the Northland and if you aren't running any of the races, volunteers are needed.  Volunteering is another way to have a fun and rewarding experience.

Every volunteer will receive:

  • An official Grandma’s Marathon T-shirt
  • Refreshment tickets
  • Invitation to the special Grandma’s Marathon Volunteer Appreciation Party
